Equity vs. Equality

Many people confuse equity with equality but they are not the same.

Equality is the state of being equal.  So what is equity?  Webster defines equity as: fairness or justice in the way people are treated.  God says righteousness and justice is what his kingdom is built on.

Psalms 89:14

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.

God's Word teaches us about how he thinks and responds to situations here on Earth.  God's holiness requires him to treat us with equity.

Psalms 99:1-5

The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name; he is holy. The King is mighty, he loves justice you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy.

Hebrews 12:10

They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.

God wants us to share his holiness with us. This holiness requires us to treat others with equity.
